Local Marketing Firms Win National Awards
(Overland Park and Leawood, Kan. and Kansas City, Mo.) May 25, 2005 — Three local Kansas City area companies received top awards in the print media category during the Communicator Awards’ 2005 competition held in April. Based in Arlington, Texas, the Communicator Awards is an international awards competition founded by communications professionals to recognize excellence in the field. According to the Communicator Awards, Millennium Marketing Group, Impact Communications, Inc. and Bernstein-Rein Advertising, Inc. received top honors out of nearly 5,000 entries in the print media category alone. “Entries are judged by industry professionals who look for companies and individuals whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry,” the Communicator Awards stated.
Millennium Marketing Group, Ltd. received two of the highest honors with the Crystal Award of Excellence. The “Near Infrared Blood Glucose Monitor” won in the writing/technical category and the “Proprioceptive Pitch Trainer” won in the media kit/product introduction category. Receiving two Awards of Distinction in the brochure/prospectus categories were the “Line Lock” prospectus and “Dolphin Exercise Equipment” prospectus, and rounding out MMG’s five total awards was an Honorable Mention for the “Drummond System” in the technical writing category.
Scott Norman, MMG president and founder, said, “I’m pleased by the advancements made in such a short time within our business development division. Since our inception in 1998, we have become a leading player within our industry. Our winning top honors with these projects and being recognized with two Crystal Awards is a testimony to the dedication to excellence by our staff.”
Leawood-based Impact Communications, Inc. also won a Crystal Award of Excellence for its work producing and promoting the book, Just Give Me the Answer$: Expert Advisors Address Your Most Pressing Financial Questions. President Marie Swift worked on the project with 75 independent financial planners along with Sheryl Garrett, CFP®, a nationally-known, Shawnee-based advisor who has been named "one of the 25 most influential people in financial planning" for three consecutive years by Investment Advisor magazine.
A twenty-year marketing communications professional, Swift developed the concept for the book, produced the manuscript and spearheaded the corresponding national publicity campaign. "The overarching goal of the book is to empower and educate the reader. Everyone needs and can benefit from professional financial advice at certain times in their life. This book is intended to motivate as many people as possible and inspire them to take a more active role in managing their personal financial affairs." In addition to receiving the Crystal Award of Excellence for Just Give Me the Answer$, Impact Communications also received two Awards of Distinction (one for a custom slide show and one for an oversized B2B brochure) and one Honorable Mention (for newsletter writing, layout and design).
Bernstein-Rein also received a Crystal Award of Excellence, for the free-standing insert it produced and distributed to over 260,000 Kansas City area households and businesses through the Kansas City Star. With both co-founders Bob Bernstein and Skip Rein still active in the business, Bernstein-Rein celebrated its 40 years of making marketing history with the special commemorative publication which they opted to design and write in-house, in order to maintain complete creative control.
"Thanks in part to this special newspaper supplement, we were thrilled with the success of our 40th anniversary year, but to be recognized by an international competition like The Communicator Awards makes it even better," said Bob Bernstein, Bernstein-Rein's president and chief executive officer. "And being part of the 13 percent — out of 5,078 entries — that earned the Crystal Award of Excellence affirms that Bernstein-Rein provides graphic design, writing and creative communication services that are the best of the best."
